Warners is moving the Joseph Gordon-Levitt Sandman movie from Warner Bros. to New Line, according to The Hollywood Reporter, as part of a general move to put Vertigo-based movies at New Line while Warner Bros. retains the DC universe superhero films.
The Sandman movie has been in development by Gordon-Levitt and David Goyer for years, most recently with Jack Thorne as screenwriter on a treatment by Goyer (see "Geek Movie Round-Up").
Some films are remaining where they are, which will make them exceptions to the new imprint-studio alignments. Justice League Dark, which includes some Vertigo characters such as Constantine, will stay at Warner Bros., although Guillermo del Toro is leaving the film as director. Del Toro had indicated earlier this year that another director might take over if his schedule didn’t work out (see "Del Toro's 'Justice League Dark'").
And the Shazam film with Dwayne Johnson (see "The Rock to Play 'Black Adam' in 'Shazam' Movie") is staying at New Line.
