Several studios shifted release dates for upcoming films recently, including Star Wars: Episode VIII, Spider-Man, Jumanji, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, Avatar 2, and Power Rangers.

Disney’s Star Wars: Episode VIII was moved from May 26, 2017 date to December 15, 2017. Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales was moved into that May 26 spot.

The recently scheduled Jumanji remake (see “Geek Movie News Round-Up”) has moved from December 25, 2016 to July 28, 2017. Sony’s untitled Spider-Man reboot was shifted from this date to July 7. The new Spider-Man has been cast (see “Sony Finds Its New Spider-Man”) and he will be appearing in Marvel’s Captain America: Civil War this May (see “Spider-Man to Join Marvel Cinematic Universe”).

Sony has also pushed back the untitled Spider-Man animated movie, from a summer release (see “ Sony Plans Animated 'Spider-Man' Feature“) to December 21, 2018, according to Variety.

According to Variety, Lionsgate announced the Power Rangers film has been moved to a March 24, 2017 opening (see “Yellow Ranger Joins 'Power Rangers'”). The film was originally scheduled to open on January 13, 2017.

The 20th Century Fox Avatar sequels may not have a firm date, but director James Cameron told the Montreal Gazette that the first sequel will hit theaters at Christmas 2017, with the following films opening subsequently in 2018 and 2019. The three films will be shot simultaneously.

Slashfilm is reporting that Paramount has taken the sequel to Terminator Genisys off the calendar. Genisys tanked at the box office (see “'Jurassic World,' 'Inside Out' in Dead Heat”), and sales weren’t helped by the film making the top 10 most pirated movies of 2015 list (see “Geek Movies Dominate Most Pirated List”).
