Sony announced the actor who will portray the new Spider-Man for its next Spidey stand alone film, as well as appear as part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Marvel’s Captain America: Civil War thanks to a recent deal with Marvel Studios (see “Spider-Man to Join Marvel Cinematic Universe”): Tom Holland.
Holland will portray a younger, high school age Peter Parker, according to hints that Marvel Studio President Kevin Feige revealed in April (see “Feige Talks Era, Costume for MCU Spider-Man”). The character will premiere in Captain America: Civil War, which opens May 6 next year, before starring in the Jon Watts-directed Spider-Man reboot for Sony, which is due on July 28, 2017.
Holland, 19, starred with Naomi Watts and Ewan McGregor in 2012 tsunami drama The Impossible.
