Marvel Comics, which published its first wave of adult coloring books last year (see “Marvel Unveils 3 Coloring Books For Adults”), has announced three new volumes of iconic images for adults to color. Marvel had enough success with its initial attempt to capitalize on the “Adult Coloring Book” pop culture phenomenon last year to create three new collections of its iconic artwork that will be released this fall starting in September.
First up will be Color Your Own Women of Power ($9.99), a 120-page collection that will be released in September and will feature images of the increasingly powerful (and popular) Marvel female superheroes (and supervillains). Given that the audience for these adult coloring books skews female, it only makes sense for Marvel to showcase its growing lineup of female characters in the coloring book format.
Two additional adult coloring books are slated for release in October. The Color Your Own Doctor Strange volume also makes sense as a coloring book since the comics featuring the “Master of the Mystic Arts” were typically visually stunning exercises of the far-flung imaginations of artists who delighted in being able to depict worlds far different from our quotidian existence, while Color Your Own Star Wars needs no justification given the enormous popularity of the property, which has quickly become one of Marvel top comic book franchises.
