Jason Momoa, who plays Aquaman in the rebooted DC Cinematic Universe, appears to be on track to portray the revenge-seeking, murdered musician Eric Draven in a remake of James O’Barr’s The Crow.  Momoa posted an image of himself sharing a pint of Guinness with the director of The Crow remake, Corin Hardy (see “New Life for The Crow Again”) on Instagram with the hashtags, #sealthedeal, #dreamjob, #greatnewstcome, and #cantwaittotelltheword.

Momoa, who will appear next as Aquaman in Zack Snyder’s Justice League Part One in 2017, will then star in a stand-alone Aquaman movie that is slated to debut on June 27, 2018 (see “Warner Bros. Shifts, Adds to DC Movie Slate”).  If The Crow deal does go through, there should be time for Momoa to star in the gritty Detroit-set revenge saga and still fulfill his Aquaman commitments.

While it has some supernatural elements, The Crow is more of a neo-noir thriller, and does not require the elaborate effects that conventional superhero films with their endless throwdowns between superpowered villains and heroes, so production of the film can be completed much more quickly, which is something that Relativity Media, the company that holds the rights to The Crow and is just emerging from bankruptcy, is banking on in its climb back from a series corporate near-death experiences.  It is quite possible that The Crow remake will beat the Aquaman movie into theaters, so stay tuned.

O’Barr’s The Crow was adapted into a film before in a 1994 film directed by Alex Proyas that has become a cult classic in part because of the tragic death of the film’s star Brandon Lee, who died on the set in an accidental shooting.
