Geek & Sundry has announced plans for its 5th annual International TableTop Day (ITTD), which will take place on Saturday April 29. The company has greatly simplified the participation process so more retailers can take part.
Geek & Sundry has eliminated the retail boxes of previous years (see “Geek & Sundry Revamps TableTop Day”) and is now working with several distributors (ACD/Alliance/GTS) to carry the exclusive products a la carte. The exclusive products, micro games, and promotional merchandise will be offered at “low or no cost” for store owners, the announcement stated. The print runs from publishers will be a bit higher than previous years, an ITTD representatives told ICv2, allowing retailers to order items in the quantities they want (limits will apply). The exclusive products may not be sold online. Preorders begin on March 1.
TableTop is encouraging retailers to participate in this year’s theme by asking their customers “How did board games change your life?” Retailers can share answers on social media or submit a video to be considered for the Geek & Sundry ITTD live-stream on Twitch. Retailers can sign up on the official retailer locator online to have their store’s events listed. The events will be listed using the Google Maps platform.
Though specific promos have not been announced, participating publishers include Fireside Games, Japanime Games, Renegade Game Studios, Stronghold Games, and Grey Fox Games.
Grey Fox has already revealed its exclusive micro game, Lucha Jefe! Players take the role of luchador managers attempting to recruit the best masked wrestlers, who will then compete to see who can help their manager maintain the best record. Players secretly choose which luchadors to use each round, which will be sidelined, and which will be retired. The first fighter to best their opponent’s fighter three times will become Lucha Jefe. MSRP is 9.99 and the game will come with a limited edition ITTD cloth bag and a promotional character card.
In past years, TableTop was a huge boon to retailers, pushing up sales of games featured on the popular web series (see “The 'TableTop' Bump”), as was its annual day celebrating games, which included lots of exclusives. The latest season of TableTop released two episodes in November on Geek & Sundry’s YouTube Channel, with the rest of the season being windowed behind a paywall on Alpha (see “Split Window for 'TableTop 4' Starts Today”).
