The reboot from writer Glen Mazzara, who previously served as showrunner on The Shield, The Walking Dead, and Damien, will be a departure from the feature films and hew to Miller’s graphic novels. Len Wiseman (Underworld) will direct the series. Stephen L’Heureux (Sin City: A Dame To Kill For) will oversee and produce the series. Miller, Mazzara, Wiseman, and Bob and Harvey Weinstein will also produce.
The network and release date have not been determined.
Miller’s groundbreaking noir comic debuted in 1991 in Dark Horse Presents. Robert Rodriguez helmed two feature films based on the series, with Miller in the co-director’s chair: Sin City (2005) and Sin City: A Dame to Kill For (2014). The first was very successful (see “Sin City DVD Is Number One”), but audiences had tired of the unique graphic film style Rodriguez employed by the time the much-delayed second film came around (see “'Guardians' Back at #1 as 'Sin City 2' Bombs”). The Weinsteins executive produced both films and previously had been involved in negotiations for a TV show based on the comics in 2005 (see “Sin City TV Series in Development”).
