Among the projects is the development of the Tales for a Halloween Night graphic novel anthology series from Carpenter’s own Storm King Productions. The series is being developed for Syfy, and a search for a writer is underway. The first volume in the series debuted in late 2015, and a third volume, which features work from Kelley Jones and sports a cover by Tim Bradstreet, is due in stores on September 27.
Carpenter will also develop Nightside, based on Simon R. Green’s novels about the hidden netherworld of London. Jill Blotevogel, the co-creator of the Scream TV series, is attached to write. The new deal includes Carpenter’s longtime producing partner Sandy King, and will find the pair executive producing scripted programs for NBC Universal and other networks and streaming services.
Carpenter has a massive following, having directed cult favorites like Escape from New York, The Thing, They Live, and Big Trouble in Little China. Several of the movie franchises have spawned ties-ins, such at the upcoming Big Trouble in Little China: Old Man Jack comic series from BOOM! Studios (see “'Big Trouble in Little China: Old Man Jack'”) and a hotly anticipated board game based on the film (see “Details Emerge for 'Big Trouble In Little China: The Game'”). There’s also an impending board game inspired by The Thing (see “'The Thing: Infection at Outpost 31' Revealed”).
