Independent retailers in two categories are piggybacking on Small Business Saturday in 2017, as toy stores and comic stores continue to host their own special days the two weekends before.

Small Business Saturday will be held on the Saturday after Thanksgiving, November 25, with cooperation from two retailer associations to promote participation by their member stores.  The American Booksellers Association is promoting Indies First, a national campaign dedicated to supporting independent bookstores on Small Business Saturday, and urging its members to host creative events and activities with authors, supported by publishers.

Record Store Day, which organizes the annual event promoting independent music stores, is supporting the release of a limited edition vinyl album by Dawes to support Small Business Saturday (there are also a number of special releases on Black Friday Record Store Day, the day before).

As was the case last year (see "Retailer Days Proliferate"), two retailer associations in geek culture categories have their own pre-holiday shopping events the weekends before Small Business Saturday.

On November 11, ASTRA, the American Specialty Toy Retailing Association, hosts Neighborhood Toy Store Day with special programs including crafts, scavenger hunts, product discounts and charity drives at participating retailers.

And on November 18, ComicsPro has organized Local Comic Shop Day, with exclusive comic products released for the day (see "First Three Local Comic Shop Day Exclusives Announced").
