Prices in the ongoing charity eBay auctions for pairs of San Diego Comic-Con tickets are at $6000 to $6100 as this is written. The non-profit organization that runs San Diego Comic-Con and WonderCon Anaheim kicked off auctions for the first of ten pairs of four-day (plus Preview Night) tickets, all raising money to benefit UNICEF USA, on Thursday.
The auctions for the first four pairs of tickets end Friday; auctions for six more pairs will open on Saturday, October 28 and run for 72 hours. The timing is around Comic-Con’s Returning Registration for the 2018 show, which opens this weekend.
Comic-Con International cited the ongoing struggles of communities rebuilding after this fall’s hurricanes, including the 3 million residents of Puerto Rico without power and the 1 million children in Texas that are unable to start school because of damaged education and daycare facilities. UNICEF USA is a non-profit organization leading disaster response, delivering supplies, and creating child-friendly spaces for those communities impacted by the storms.
The 2017 convention marked the 10th year since San Diego Comic-Con first maxed out the San Diego Convention Center (see "Records Shattered at San Diego Comic-Con"), but the price for the tickets shows just how hot Comic-Con tickets are, charity or not. And speculation is not a factor, as the terms prohibit reselling the tickets, with the threat of cancellation if resale is uncovered.
