The inaugural AnimeNYC convention kicks off just two weeks from today (see "LeftField Announces New Anime Show for New York").  Manga publishers VIZ Media, Yen Press, Vertical, and Kodansha Comics will all be there, and we’ll be watching to see if there’s any news. In the meantime, here’s the latest!

New Titles from Yen Press:  Yen Press announced two new licenses this week.  Eclair is an anthology of yuri (lesbian romance) stories by Canno (Kiss and White Lily for My Dearest Girl), Sakuya Amano (GoSick), and Nio Nakatani (Bloom Into You).  It will be out in April 2018.  The other acquisition is a light novel: Napping Princess, an adaptation of the movie about a princess whose dreams of high-tech warfare begin to mingle with reality; this book is scheduled for a May 2018 release date.

Warehouse Fire Delays Titles:  Three VIZ Media manga scheduled for an early November release will ship in December instead, due to a warehouse fire.  All three volumes are in the Shojo Beat imprint: Vol. 1 of SP Baby, Vol. 5 of Anonymous Noise, and Vol. 4 of Idol Dreams.  The manga will have to be reprinted; the new release date will be November 28.  December books will ship on schedule.

New Manga from a Deceased Master:  According to a report in Kyodo News, the Japanese publisher Shogakukan is preparing to publish two posthumous works by Jiro Taniguchi, who died in February at age 69 (see "RIP Jiro Taniguchi").  One is a full-color story, titled Kônen no Mori, about a boy who is sent to the country after his parents’ divorce; the theme of the book is "harmony with nature and emotions found in sceneries.”  It is already available in France under the title La Forêt Millénaire.  The other book is a collection of short stories and is in black and white.  It is believed that Taniguchi worked on both of these manga during his final illness.  There is no indication yet of whether they will be translated into English, but it’s likely that if they are, they will be published by Ponent Mon, which has released Taniguchi’s other works in English (see "This Publisher Has Almost Half As Many Eisner Noms as Graphic Novel Releases").

Zelda Creators Take a Break:  The dynamic duo known as Akira Himekawa are taking a break from their work on Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, according to a report at Anime News Network.  The manga is serialized biweekly in the magazine MangaONE.  The creators said they have taken time off to work on the finale of the story as well as to "recharge."  The hiatus is not likely to affect American serialization of the story, as VIZ's volumes lag the Japanese edition by a large margin; the third volume was published in May in Japan but is not due out in North America until March 2018.

Crossovers:  The streaming anime site Crunchyroll released the results of a reader survey recently that indicate that 90% of its users identify as gamers—and 54% as "hardcore gamers."  Over 10,500 Crunchyroll users took the survey in early October, according to the marketing site [a]list.  The gender split among respondents was about 55% male/45% female; 48% said that they played video games for at least 20 hours a week and 19% said they play at least 40.
