BBC has revealed the look for the new Doctor Who. BBC took to Twitter to share the first image of Jodie Whittaker in her official costume.

The first female Doctor sports cropped teal trousers, yellow suspenders, and a striped shirt, topped off with a trench coat and brown laced boots. It has nods to several previous Doctors, from the stripes of Tom Baker’s signature scarf, to David Tennant’s sweeping coat, to Matt Smith’s maroon braces (notably absent: a tie, bow or otherwise). It’s a natty outfit ripe for cosplay.

Whittaker, who starred in cult favorite Attack the Block and Broadchurch, is the first woman to play the revered Time Lord (see “Thirteenth Doctor Who Announced”), a welcome change for fans who have been clamoring for more diversity in the title role. Whittaker’s Doctor will have three companions, two of them men: Bradley Walsh (Law & Order: UK), will play Graham; Tosin Cole (Hollyoaks, Star Wars: The Force Awakens) will play Ryan; and Mandip Gill (Doctors, Hollyoak), will play Yasmin (see “Male Companions in 'Doctor Who,' More DC For CW, 'Stargate,' 'Amazing Stories'”). The series will air on BBC America in 2018.
