The story focuses on Brian Espstein, who discovered the Beatles and led them to worldwide success as their manager. Despite the fame of the band, Epstein remained an outsider as a gay Jewish man from a country where homosexuality was a felony.
Andrew C. Robinson and Kyle Baker illustrated The Fifth Beatle, which was widely acclaimed (see “Review: 'The Fifth Beatle: The Brian Epstein Story' TP”) and won two Harvey Awards (see 2014 Harvey Award Winners: 'Saga,' 'Adventure Time,' 'Sex Criminals' & 'The 5th Beatle') and an Eisner (see “2014 Eisner Award Winners”).
Prior to the TV series, the graphic novel had been in development as a feature film, most recently by Simon Cowell (see “Fifth Beatle’ Film Starts Over with Simon Cowell”), and earlier by Bruce Cohen (see “The ‘Fifth Beatle’ Biopic”).
