Japanese game designer Yuo (Shahrazad)’s card game Birdie Fight will soon be available in an English version called Songbirds, releasing in November from Daily Magic Games.
In Songbirds, the loudest birds get the berries, unless they are tied for loudest. Then the next bird can sneak in and take the berries for themselves. The players add cards to a grid, and once the grid is filled, the bird with the highest total in each row and each column scores the “Berry token” assigned to that part of the grid. Then, each player reveals their last unplayed card, scoring points for all of the berries that color of bird won on the grid.
Songbirds includes 32 cards and 15 tokens. It was designed for 1 to 4 players, ages 8 and up, and takes about 20 minutes to play. MSRP is $20.00.
Daily Magic has funded the production of Songbirds with a Kickstarter campaign that is entering its last day with $26,564 in pledged support from 1,288 backers (an average of $20.62 per backer). The campaign includes a retailer-only backer option that includes a dozen copies of the game, including the Kickstater exclusive promo cards. Backer fulfillment is planned for September, with release into the trade to follow.
The company also plans to release an expansion for its Valeria card game in November (see "Darkness Descends on the Kingdom of Valeria").
