The Harvey Awards are marking their 30th anniversary and return to New York City (see “Harvey Awards Move to New York Comic Con”) with some significant changes.

The nominees for the 2018 Harvey Awards will be selected by a committee of industry professionals, and anyone who has been approved for pro badge or artist alley badge at ReedPop events (New York Comic Con, Emerald City Comic Con, C2E2) since 2016 is eligible to vote.  Nominees will be announced on August 1, and voting concludes on August 23.

The 30th anniversary Harvey Awards also feature a new slate of categories that emphasizes the graphic novel format:

  • Book of the Year (long-form graphic novel or collection)
  • Digital Book of the Year (comic or collection originally presented in a digital format)
  • Best Children or Young Adult Book (long-form original graphic novel or collection presented for younger audiences)
  • Best Adaptation from Comic Book/Graphic Novel (adaptation to another medium of a work originally presented as a graphic novel, trade collection or comic book)
  • Best Manga (translated into English)
  • Best European Book (translated into English)

The Harvey Awards Executive Committee will also present honors to individuals in the following categories:

  • Harvey Kurtzman Award for Humor: for satire in digital or print comic books, graphic novels, comic strips
  • Harvey Hall of Fame Award: for creators who have had a distinguished career or impact on the medium for more than two decades.
  • International Spotlight Award: for a creator whose work originates outside the United States

The Harvey Awards ceremony will be held Saturday, October 6, during a gala event at New York Comic Con.
