At the San Diego-Con Star Wars Clone Wars 10th Anniversary panel on Thursday, series supervising director Dave Filoni announced the animated series will return, and shared an introductory trailer and poster.

The season will include 12 all-new episodes and air on Disney’s upcoming over the top (OTT) streaming platform (see “Disney's Post-Fox Streaming Strategy”).  The show’s main characters, Anakin Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi, Ahsoka Tano, Captain Rex, and Padme Amidala will all return.

The multiple Emmy winning Star Wars: The Clone Wars was a 3D CGI animated series created by George Lucas that aired on Cartoon Network beginning in 2008.  It covered the three-year time period between the Star Wars prequel movies Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith.  The show ran for five seasons, and then canceled, in favor of Star Wars: Rebels.  The 13-episode sixth season that was already in production, dubbed “The Lost Missions” was added to Netflix when the platform began streaming the series (see “Home Found for 'Clone Wars' 'Lost Missions'”).

Disney announced plans for a live-action Star Wars series for the OTT service earlier this year (see “Disney Plans Live-Action 'Star Wars' TV Series”).
