San Diego Comic-Con News:  Warner Bros. has released the teaser trailer for the 2019 release Shazam!, and the trailer’s lighthearted tone is very apparent in the way in which Zachary Levi revels in his newly acquired superpowers.  Nowhere in comics is the adolescent wish fulfillment element of the superhero genre more blatantly presented, and more innocently enjoyed than in the Billy Batson to Shazam (orginally Captain Marvel) transition, which this trailer depicts, along with the first time hero’s attempts to catalog and control his new powers, a trope that is reminiscent of the Last American Hero TV series, though Zachary Levi as the Shazam incarnation of Billy is clearly enjoying himself wholeheartedly right from the beginning.

Shazam! is set for release on April 5, 2019 (see “Best in Shows—Q2 2019”).
