North Star Games will produce an English version of this year’s Kennerspiel des Jahres award winner, The Quacks of Quedlinburg.  The game will release in late November.

Originally published under the name Die Quacksalber von Quedlinburg by Schmidt Spiele in Germany, the game was designed by a rising star of game design, Wolfgang Warsch, who had two other titles nominated for the prestigious Spiel des Jahres awards this year (see “2018 ‘Spiel des Jahres’ Nominations”).  The Quacks of Quedlinburg went on to win the Kennerspiel des Jahres or “Enthusiasts’ Game of the Year” award (see “Winners for 2018 ‘Spiel des Jahres’”).

In the game, the players are “miracle doctors” who flock to the bustling town of Quedlinburg to peddle questionable “cures” for ailments from smelly feet to homesickness.  Each quack brews their own medicines using the game’s push-your-luck mechanic, packing ingredients into their mixing pot.  Those who can blend the best mix of ingredients without causing their concoctions to explode earn money and fame, in the form of victory in the game.

The Quacks of Quedlinburg is intended for 2 to 4 players, ages 13 and up, and takes about an hour to play.  MSRP is $60.00.  The final English title, artwork, and component list have not been released.

In October, North Star will release the wild west themed Most Wanted (see “Gain Notoriety in ‘Most Wanted’”), and recently launched Dude through an exclusive arrangement with Target (see “North Star Games Releases ‘Dude’ Card Game”).
