Al Jaffee’s Ziggy Pig and Silly Seal are returning for Marvel’s 80th anniversary festivities. The funny animal duo is among the characters who will star in three February one-shots marking eight decades of comics fun.

Writers David and Maria Lapham (Stray Bullets) and Luca Pizzari (Weapon X) will share a tale of the Old West in The Gunhawks #1, on sale February 6. Gerardo Zaffin covers the issue. The Gunhawks, a.k.a. Kid Cassidy and Reno Jones, had their original and short-lived Marvel run starting in 1972.

Out February 20, Love Romances #1 features love stories from Dennis Hopeless, Gail Simone, Jon Adams, Roge Antonio, Annapaola Martello, and more. The issue sports a cover by Pyeong-Jun Park. The Love Romances anthology was first published by Marvel predecessor Atlas in the late 1940s and ran through the early 1960s.

Finally, the month ends with the February 27 release of Ziggy Pig - Silly Seal Comics #1, written by Frank Tieri and drawn by Jacob Chabot. Nic Klein provides the cover. Ziggy Pig and Silly Seal debuted in 1942 in Marvel predecessor Timely’s Krazy Komics anthology series, and the popular characters would go on to star on several covers, in individual series, and in other anthologies.

Marvel’s 80th anniversary will also see the return of two classics, Invaders and Marvel Comics Presents (see “'Marvel Comics Presents' and 'Invaders' Return”). Marvel also has eight Decades trade paperback collections planned for release throughout 2019 (see “Marvel Announces 80th Anniversary Publishing Program”).
