Marvel will launch an ongoing monthly Doctor Doom series by writer Christopher Cantwell (showrunner for Halt and Catch Fire, and writer of She Could Fly for Berger Books, see "Berger Books Believes ‘She Could Fly’") and artist Salvador Larroca (Star Wars, Invincible Iron Man).
Originally created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby as a villain in Fantastic Four, Doctor Doom has been through many changes in his 57-year existence, including an attempt to reform and be a hero rather than a villain. No longer the ruler of Latveria, he now has no military and no supporters. The new series finds him questioning his choices, while at the same time he is trying to stop the creation of the first artificial black hole. When an act of mass terrorism kills thousands of people, suspicion falls on Doom, and he has to push aside his introspection in order to stay ahead of the law.
In addition to the main cover by Larroca, the first issue will have variant covers by Mike Deodato Jr., Arthur Adams, and Simone Bianchi, as well as a "Mary Jane" variant by Cliff Chiang and a "Hidden Gem" variant by an artist to be announced. Street date is October 9.
