{IMAGE_2}Hasbro has announced that it will begin phasing out plastic packaging for new toy and game products in 2020, including brands such as Nerf, My Little Pony, Monopoly, Power Rangers, and Magic: The Gathering. Beginning next year, Hasbro will start the transition away from plastic packaging elements such as polybags, elastic bands, shrink wrap, window sheet, and blister packs. The goal will be to remove most or all plastic in packaging in new products by the end of 2022.
The new initiative is part of Hasbro's commitment to environmental sustainability which started in 2010 when the company stopped using wire ties to stabilize products like action figures and toy cars.
“Removing plastic from our packaging is the latest advancement in our more than decade-long journey to create a more sustainable future for our business and our world,” Hasbro Chairman and CEO Brian Goldner said in a statement released with the announcement.
The new initiative comes after good quarterly report in which Hasbro saw a 26% sales growth in Magic: The Gathering and Monopoly (see "'Magic' Sales Drive Hasbro Q2 Growth").
