Marvel has previously reserved the $500 slipcase edition format for its biggest Marvel Cinematic Universe franchise, the Avengers (see “’Earth’s Mightiest Box Set’”), a sign of the importance that Marvel is placing on its new reunion with the X-Men franchise in the wake of Disney’s acquisition of Fox’s entertainment assets. The move is part of a renewed emphasis on the X-Men characters in Marvel’s publishing, which is launching six new titles and a renewal of the franchise under Jonathan Hickman (see “Marvel Announces Six New X-Series”).
