Seven Seas Entertainment announced a number of new manga and light novel licenses last week, all slated for release in Spring and Summer 2020.  Here's a look:

The Legend of Dororo and Hyakkimaru is manga-ka Satoshi Shiki’s retelling of Osamu Tezuka’s manga Dororo (which was adapted into an anime this year that is available on Amazon Prime).  Like the original, this new version tells the story of a boy who is chopped into 48 pieces that are taken by 48 demons.  He teams up with the daring samurai named Dororo to reclaim his body and his life.  The first volume will be released in June 2020 with an MSRP of $12.99.

Love on the Other Side is by Nagabe, the creator of The Girl From the Other Side: Siúil, a Rún and The Wize Wize Beasts of the Wizarding Wizdoms.  This new license is along the same lines: it's a collection of six short stories about love and magical creatures.  The single volume will be released in June 2020 and have an MSRP of $12.99.

Sarazanmai: Reo and Mabu is a manga spinoff of the anime Sarazanmai (which streams on Crunchyroll), but the story is self-contained.  It’s a josei (young women’s) comedy with a touch of boys love: Two police officers, Reo and Mabu, find a baby lying on a plate and decide to raise it together.  Seven Seas will publish the one-shot manga in May 2020 with an MSRP of $12.99.

Makeup is Not (Just) Magic: A Manga Guide to Cosmetics and Skin Care is a makeup tutorial in manga form.  Like most educational manga, this one has a story: a young woman needs to learn how to put on makeup, and her more worldly friend helps her.  The large-trim, single-volume manga is scheduled for May 2020 with an MSRP of $13.99.

Sazan & Comet Girl is a space-chase story that has a retro look, although it came out in 2015 in Japan.  Sazan is an earthling who is smitten when he meets a redheaded young woman who has a special power that has all the space pirates chasing after her.  This series, published as two volumes in Japan, won the prestigious Manga Taisho award.  The manga is in full color, and Seven Seas will publish it as a one-volume, 500-page omnibus in May 2020 with an MSRP of $24.99.

Kuma Kuma Kuma Bear puts a new spin on the trapped-in-a-game story: The main character is a girl, and when she is transported into the game, her chief weapon becomes her magical bear suit.  Seven Seas has licensed both the manga and the light novels; the first volume of the manga will be released in May 2020 with an MSRP of $12.99, and the first volume of the light novel series will be released in June 2020 with an MSRP of $13.99.

My Senpai is Annoying is a workplace comedy that started as a webcomic and will be published in full color.  The title pretty much gives away the plot: it's about an office lady who is constantly being teased by a senior employee.  Of course this leads to romance, because manga.  The first volume is scheduled for a May 2020 release with an MSRP of $14.99.

I Had That Same Dream Again is the story of an elementary school girl who is looking for the meaning of happiness.  Her quest draws her interrelationships with three strangers: a girl who is harming herself, a teenager with no friends, and an old woman.  The story is by the writer of I Want To Eat Your Pancreas, and Seven Seas has licensed both the light novel,  which will be published in May 2020 with an MSRP of $14.99, and the manga adaptation, which will be published in a single omnibus volume in July 2020 with an MSRP of $20.99.

Love Me for What I Am is an LGBT+  manga set in a maid café where the boys dress as girls.  The lead character is not binary and finds a supportive atmosphere there among a diverse group of people.  The first volume is scheduled for June 2020 and will have an MSRP of $12.99.

Seven Seas also announced two more light novel licenses:

Penguindrum, the light novel series that ties in with the manga, which Seven Seas has also licensed (see "Seven Seas Licenses, Fantasy, Boys Love, ‘Penguindrum’"), as well as the anime.  The first volume is planned for May 2020 and will have an MSRP of $13.99.

The Invincible Shovel (Scoop Musou), an RPG-inflected fantasy story about the world’s strongest miner and a princess who is trying to save her kingdom from invading demons.  The first volume is scheduled for May 2020 with an MSRP of $13.99.
