The black-clad Phantom Ranger first appeared in 1997 in season five of the Power Rangers television series, (dubbed Power Rangers Turbo) and later in Power Rangers in Space. This ranger is a skilled fighter who has the power of invisibility, fights on the side of the Allies, and has a special bond with Cassie. The Phantom Ranger’s human identity has not been revealed, but BOOM! began exploring the character’s origins in the one-shot Power Rangers Unlimited: Edge of Darkness, and the new series will continue this thread.
Andelfinger's writing credits include Jim Henson’s Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance, Regular Show, Rugrats, and Steven Universe, as well as graphic novels based on Sabaa Tahir’s An Ember in the Ashes series (see "BOOM! to Publish Prequel to Bestselling Fantasy Novel Trilogy") and the Netflix animated series The Dragon Prince.
The Power Rangers have been on television for 28 years, with Power Rangers Dino Fury currently running on Nickelodeon. Hasbro, which holds the rights to the Power Rangers franchise, announced in October that its production arm eOne is developing new Power Rangers media properties (see “New ‘Power Rangers’ Screen Adaptations”)
