The direct-to-consumer fulfillment of IDW Games’ Batman: The Animated Series Adventures drove up IDW Publishing sales and profits in IDW Media Holdings’ Q1 ended January 31, 2022, the company said in its quarterly report.  This was the last hurrah for the games division; the company announced that it was winding it down and would only be filling backlist orders (see "IDW’s Q4 and Annual Reports Reveal More").  The game was announced in January 2020 with a planned release date of Fall 2020 (see "IDW Announces ‘Batman: The Animated Series Adventures’").

IDW Publishing sales were $7,531,000 for the quarter, up from $5,649,000 in the same quarter a year ago. The game contributed $2,118,000 in DTC sales, and other publishing revenue went up $361,000, partially offset by a $521,000 reduction in sales to Diamond Comic Distributors (due to fewer titles being released, the company said), and digital sales decline of $175,000.

IDW Publishing generated a net profit of $512,000, a big improvement over the $373,000 loss in the year ago period.

For IDW Media Holdings, which also includes IDW Entertainment, total revenues for the quarter were $11,849,000, up from $8,413,000 in the year ago period.  Net income was $1,989,000, a huge swing from the $6,255,000 loss in the year ago period.
