At the Superman panel at New York Comic Con, DC announced a "new era" of Superman with a new ongoing Superman series, a new format for Action Comics, and a new Jon Kent series from writer Tom Taylor and artist Clayton Henry, all launching in early 2023.
Following issue #1050 with its bumper crop of covers (see "‘Action Comics’ #1050 to Have 26 Variant Covers"), Action Comics will move to a different format with issue #1051, which will carry three stories: the continuation of the Metallo arc that began in the previous issue; "Lois and Clark 2: Doom Rising," by Dan Jurgens and Lee Weeks, a story of young Jon Kent, down on the farm, fighting the Doombreaker; and a three-part Power Girl story by Leah Williams and Marguerite Sauvage. "My one-word mission statement for Action Comics in 2023 is 'Super-Family,'" said writer Phillip Kennedy Johnson," and I draw inspiration from the 100-page Giant ‘Superman Family issues. We're giving everyone in the House of El their own role and personal journey while still keeping Superman at the forefront, and tying all the Super-titles together in a way that’s reminiscent of the Triangle Era." Action Comics #1051 will be released on January 24, 2023.
In December, Taylor and Henry will wrap up Superman: Son of Kal-El with issue #18, but they will be back early in 2023 with Adventures of Superman: Jon Kent, a six-issue limited series that will pit Kent against his enemy Ultraman. Val-Zod will feature in the story as well.
