The publisher, Bad Egg, is a joint venture between the merchandising firm Warren James and the talent management company Mana Talent Group. Their launch project is the second issue of GodSlap, a cyberpunk-inspired graphic novel based on a concept by the creator known variously as MoistCr1tikal, Penguinz0, and Charlie White. As Pengiunz0, he has 11.7 subscribers on YouTube, and as MoistCr1tikal, he has 4.6 million followers on Twitch.
GodSlap #2, by writers Jordan Clarke and Aubrey Sitterson and artist Ricardo Jaime, will be released on December 7 with covers by Jaime, Justin Mason, and others. The MSRP will be $12.00 for the main cover and $17.00 for the variants.
The strategy behind Bad Egg is to work with digital content creators, such as White, and talent from the comics industry to produce a range of comics, graphic novels, animation, and merch. Their Director of Publishing is Robert Meyers, who was a Senior Editor at Oni Press for two years; before that, he was Senior Editorial Director at Valiant (see “Valiant Promotes Robert Meyers to Senior Editorial Director”).
The company is self-distributing and will distribute directly to comic shops; retailers can reach out to them through their website. They plan to work with a book publisher for distribution to the mass market.
GodSlap is set in the fictional city of Montpelier, which has a ruling elite and a vast underbelly where people fight with the palms of their hands. The hero, Aius Braun, is both filled with rage and a powerful slapper. The series is based on an idea developed by White and Jackson Clarke, and the first issue, which was self-published, was written by Stephanie Phillips (see “Cosmic Ghost Rider Sees Double in New Series”), with art by Ricardo Jaime. That issue had two variant covers, each limited to an edition of 6,000, by Vincenzo Riccardi and Vamkire C. Trannel. It is available from several retailers.
