In this game, a player can their write own captain’s log as they boldly go where no man has gone before. They can create or randomly generate missions without a gamemaster, and tackle them by deciding which actions their crew can take to complete them. The game weaves a vibrant story as the player  explores strange new worlds and civilizations. The game also allows for cooperative play where friends can come on as the captain's senior staff. The game can be played in different Star Trek eras, ranging from the 21st to the 32nd century, which change based on the combadge of the cover of the book.
