Marvel dished out a shocker when they killed off Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel in Amazing Spider-Man #26 in May 2023, following it up with the one-shot Fallen Friend: The Death of Ms. Marvel. But superheroes seldom stay dead, and Kamala Khan is no exception: She will be brought back to life via Krakoan Resurrection Technology, but now she is a mutant. The story will begin in X-Men: Hellfire Gala #1, due out on July 26 (see “‘X-Men: Hellfire Gala’ One-Shot to Launch ‘Fall of X’ Event”), and will continue in a four-issue miniseries, Ms. Marvel: The New Mutant.
The new miniseries will be written by Iman Vellani, who played Kamala Khan in Marvel Studios’ Ms. Marvel TV miniseries, and Sabir Pirzada, one of the writers of that show. The artists for the miniseries will be Carlos Gomez and Adam Gorham, with covers by Sara Pichelli, and Ms. Marvel will get a new costume designed by Jamie McKelvie, who was also responsible for her original look. The first issue is due out on August 30, 2023, with a variant cover by Stanley “Artgerm” Lau.
"I want to make it very, very clear that we are not retconning her Inhuman origin,” Vellani said in a statement accompanying the announcement. “That's a part of Kamala's identity that Marvel editorial and myself would very much like to keep and protect. Our book will absolutely reflect all those core themes of identity that the Ms. Marvel comics have consistently explored — only now there's a whole new label that Kamala has to learn to accept.”
