Jeffrey Brown, known for his imaginative takes on the Star Wars characters (see "Mandalorian and Child"), turns his gaze to his own family in a new graphic novel coming from NBM in Fall 2024.

Kids Are Still Weird: And More Observations from Parenthood is Brown’s gently humorous look at the foibles of family life and his children’s unvarnished commentary on the world around them. It’s a good pick not only for Brown fans but also for those who enjoy Guy Delisle’s A User’s Guide to Neglectful Parenting and its sequels (see "'Even More Bad Parenting'"). Like Brown’s Star Wars graphic novels, Kids Are Still Weird will be published in a square, 7” x 7” format, although unlike them it will be a paperback. The 104-page book will be released on October 15, 2024, with an MSRP of $9.99.

NBM has also lined up three graphic novels taking on history and culture for its fall list:

The Incredible Story of Cooking: From Prehistory to Today, 500,000 Years of Adventure, by writer Benoist Simmat and artist Stéphane Douay, starts with the invention of fire and tracks the history of cooking techniques, as well as the impact of the spice trade, the development of the industrial food complex, and the rise of organic cooking in a 240-page hardcover that also includes 22 recipes. The authors are the creators of Wine: A Graphic History, so they have a bit of experience in this field. Release date is September 10, and the MSRP is $34.99.

The British Invasion!, by Herve Bourhis, starts in 1962, the year when the UK went from stuffy to stunning as the Beatles, James Bond, the miniskirt, and the Mini Cooper all hit the scene. The book hits the highlights of the Swinging Sixties and the ensuing years, taking in David Bowie, Harry Potter, and the Teletubbies, as British culture became a worldwide phenomenon. The 9” x 9”, 272-page hardcover will go on sale on November 12 with an MSRP of $34.99.

Audrey Hepburn, by writer Michele Botton and artist Dorilys Giacchetto, tells the story of the winsome actress with a spine of steel who withstood the hardships of World War II as a child, went on to become an iconic film star, and then spent the rest of her life as an advocate for UNICEF, a cause that was close to her heart. The 176-page hardcover will be published on December 10 with an MSRP of $24.99.
