Brotherwise Games is producing a new stand-alone, backwards-compatible version of its flagship card game to be titled Super Boss Monster, with release expected in March 2025.
Like the original Boss Monster, released in 2012 (see “‘Boss Monster’ Card Game”), Super Boss Monster channels the appeal of retro video games through its artwork and side-scrolling dungeon style of gameplay. The new version extends the metaphor with a “next gen” presentation with new game features. Now, in addition to building dungeons with minions and bosses, players can draft cards from the “Town board” and use minion meeples to power-up their dungeon defenses. A solo mode version of the game is also included, which challenges the player to defend against waves of heroes determined to reach the town’s tavern.
The retail version of the game will come with eight bosses, four minion meeples, the town board, heart tokens, and decks of cards for spells, rooms, and heroes. It is intended for 1 to 4 players, ages 13 and up, and plays in about half an hour. Super Boss Monster will be fully backwards compatible with the previous version of the game.
Brotherwise is raising funds for the production of Super Boss Monster through a Kickstarter campaign that has attracted 2,846 backers to pledge $254,309 as of this writing (an average of $89.36 per backer). The campaign includes a pledge package for brick and mortar stores. Backer fulfillment is scheduled for March 2025.
Last year, Brotherwise offered a 10th Anniversary Edition of Boss Monster (see “Brotherwise will Release ‘Boss Monster: 10th Anniversary Edition’”).
