DC Comics will launch a new Black Label series starring Wildstorm character Jenny Sparks, by Tom King and Jeff Spokes, in August.
The character Jenny Sparks was originally created by Warren Ellis in the pages of Wildstorm title Stormwatch, and used in the group The Authority, written for a time by Ellis and later by Mark Millar.
Jenny Sparks is known as “The Spirt of the 20th Century, but is now being resurrected in the 21st. “The Spirit of the 20th Century comes to the 21st to try to save five men and women taken hostage by an out-of-control and infinitely powered Captain Atom,” writer Tom King says of the story. “Through this lens, we’ll explore the grip of Jenny’s time on our own; how, despite all our desperate prayers, the sins of our past refuse to die away. Featuring astonishing art by Jeff Spokes (seriously, it’s so damn good), Jenny Sparks seeks to set the bar in superhero comics, to show how our heroes can illuminate and define our moment.”
Each issue of the six-issue series will feature 28 story pages in a 40-page comic.
The first issue will feature interior art and A cover by Spokes, variants by Guillem March and Homare, and a 1:25 variant by Saowee. The content is for ages 17 and up. Street date for #1 is August 21.
DC is also launching a Zattana Black Label series, by Mariko Tamaki and Javier Rodriguez, this summer (see “DC Announces ‘Zatanna: Bring Down the House’”).
