DC has announced a new Zatanna series, and in a first for the character, it will be published under DC’s Black Label imprint, targeted at readers 17+.

Zatanna: Bring Down the House!, by writer Mariko Tamaki and artist Javier Rodríguez, finds the titular hero performing stage magic in a seedy casino off the Las Vegas strip. Having seen real magic take a terrifying turn when she was a child, Zatanna prefers to stick to sleight of hand, but when a murderous demon crashes the show in spectacular fashion, it appears that the trouble she was trying to avoid has found her anyway. In order to stay alive, she will have to face up to the troubles of her past. The first issue will be published on June 25, 2024, with a main cover by Rodríguez and variants by Jorge Jiménez, Alvaro Martinez Bueno, Artgerm, and Mikel Janín.

DC recently published Zatanna & The Ripper, based on the webtoon (see “DC’s Webtoons Coming to Print”), which made ComicHub’s top 20 in October (see “Top 20 Graphic Novels – October 2023”).
