DC took nine slots on the Superhero chart, which is actually two fewer than in August 2023 (see "August 2023 Circana BookScan"). Six of the nine are from its new Compact Comics line, priced at a wallet-friendly $9.99 per volume. Watchmen, Batman: The Court of Owls Saga, and All-Star Superman appear on the chart for the third month in a row, and the other three, one July and two August releases, are debuting on the chart. Only one title appears twice: The Compact Comics edition of Watchmen at number 2 and the standard trade paperback at number 10, so it appears that the Compact Comics are outselling their counterparts.
At the other end of the price scale, the Artist’s Edition of David Mazzucchelli’s Batman: Year One, at number 18, has a hefty $150 price tag.
Other than these, no August releases appear on the chart, and TMNT: The Last Ronin remains at number 1, with two other Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles titles, a spinoff and a crossover, below it.

The Manga chart has been pretty consistent of late, mostly anime-driven shonen except for the Berserk hardcovers, but there are a few titles worth noting. Delicious in Dungeon continues to get a push from the anime; Vol. 14, the final volume, was on the July 2024 chart, the first time the series had appeared in the Top 20, and Vol. 1 is on this month’s chart. The Summer Hikaru Died was one of Yen Press’s top new series of 2023 (see “Yen’s Best-Sellers of 2023”), and Vol. 3 made the April 2024 Manga chart (see “April 2024 Circana BookScan”), so the fact that Vol. 4 is back in August indicates that readers are sticking with it. There is currently no anime adaptation, although one is in the works.

Vol. 9 of Solo Leveling, an August release, tops the Author chart, with the eight other volumes in the series all in the Top 20. The trade paperback of The Adventure Zone: The Suffering Game drops from number 1 last month to number 3, and the hardcover slides off the chart altogether.
The Scott Pilgrim 20th Anniversary boxed set is at number 8, which is impressive both because it was released at the end of the month and it has an MSRP of $249.99.
Adam Ellis’s Bad Dreams in the Night, which topped the April 2024 Author chart, is back at number 16. And there’s one brand-new title on the chart, Vol. 1 of No Love Zone, a boys-love manhwa.
