As NYCC approaches, Dynamite Entertainment announced a new Disney series, Zootopia, and provided more details on the upcoming Herculoids series.

Zootopia, by writer Jeff Parker and artist Alessandro Ranaldi, is the first ongoing comic based on the Disney film and Disney+ series.  The brand-new story, set in the world of the film and featuring many of the same characters, follows Officers Judy Hopps and Nick Wilde as they try to track down the saboteur who destroyed the PB&J cell phone company’s launch event for their new phone.  The first issue will be published in January 2025 with covers by Trish Forstner, Ranaldi, Craig Rousseau, and others as well as artwork from the film itself.

The feature film Zootopia 2 is set to premiere in November 2025.

Dynamite also provided more information on their planned Herculoids series, first announced in July (see “SDCC News: Dynamite Unveils Five”).  Writer Tom Sniegoski and artist Craig Rousseau, who collaborated on Young Hellboy (see “Young Hellboy Returns”), will be the creative team for the series, which is based on the Hanna-Barbera cartoon about a motley group of characters who are constantly called upon to defend their home planet.  The first issue is scheduled for February 2025 with covers by Francesco Mattina, Dan Panosian, Bjorn Barends, Joseph Michael Linsner, and Mike Mignola.

The Herculoids is the latest product of the licensing deal between Dynamite and Warner Bros. Discovery Global Consumer Products.  Dynamite launched its WBD line with ThunderCats and has just announced a sequel series, SilverHawks (see “Dynamite Extends ‘Thundercats’ Universe with ‘SilverHawks’”).
