Ares Games has made a deal with Tabula Games to distribute Tabula Games in English-speaking countries.  The first two games that Ares will handle are Mysthea and Volfyirion Guilds, both releasing in July.

Tabula Games has produced a number of crowd-funded games that have seen limited release.  The deal with Ares will allow their titles to enjoy broader availability in the U.S. and other English-speaking nations.

Mysthea is a Euro-style game that combines area control and hand management mechanics.  In the game, players compete to control floating islands that are home to mysterious anomalies and dangerous monsters.  The players can fight for control of the islands, use their powers to make the islands move and modify the game board, and construct strongholds to secure their claims.

The game includes 74 highly detailed plastic miniatures with 65 colored bases, 50 tokens, 1 game board with 5 floating island tiles, 1 event board, 5 player boards, 150 cards, 5 reference sheets, and 1 bag.  The game is intended for 2 to 5 players, ages 14 and up, and takes about 2 hours to play.

Set in the same fictional universe as Mysthea, Volfyirion Guilds is a deck-building strategy game that explores the competition between the five guilds that dominate the setting.  As the leader of a guild, each player seeks to defend their own cities while destroying those controlled by their opponents, while also seeking a way to tame the dragon Volfyirion and claim his lair.

Volfyirion Guilds is intended for 1 to 4 players, ages 14 and up, and plays in about half an hour.  It comes with 118 cards and a screen-printed token to represent the dragon.  The game can be played on its own or combined with the original two-player game Volfyirion.

Additional Tabula games will follow later in the year, including Icaion, Ryozen, Sons of Faeriell, and Sanctuary:  The Keepers Era, as well as The Last Spell – The Board Game, based on The Last Spell video game.

In June, Ares will release Quartermaster General:  South Front (see “Ares Announces ‘Quartermaster General:  South Front’”).  In January, Ares announced a deal to distribute games from Armenian publisher Red Cat Games (see “Ares Games Partners with Armenian Game Studio Red Cat Games”).
