eBay will shut down TCGplayer in its headquarters city, Syracuse, New York, and relocate operations to Kentucky, the union announced in a social media post.  The move was announced to employees at an all-hands meeting on May 22; employees were then sent home for the next two days.  The move affects 220 employees.

The company’s operations will be consolidated at an eBay logistics center in Kentucky over a transition period during which Syracuse will be wound down, the company told WSYR News.

The TCGplayer union, CWA Local 1123, has filed an unfair labor practice charge against the company, in which the union alleges that the company is making the move “…to evade its bargaining obligations and keep the company union-free.”

TCGplayer was acquired by eBay in 2022 (see “eBay Closes on TCGplayer”); employees voted to form a union in 2023 (see “Union Wins Election at TCGplayer”), The company and the union have not agreed on a first contract.
