Several paths forward are available for retailers affected by Diamond Comic Distributors' announcement of the abrupt shut-down of ComicSuite and PREVIEWS Pullbox (see "Diamond Shuts Down ComicSuite"). ComicSuite will continue to be available until July 31, although some functions (including access to some data, and support) are already degraded, we heard from retailers.
For retailers that want to stay on the Retail Management Hero POS platform (the successor to Microsoft RMS, on which ComicSuite was originally built), RMH reseller MCS Multi Computer Solutions has contacted ComicSuite customers offering to maintain service on the POS software. The message clarifies that ComicSuite customers will continue to own their RMH license; MCS is offering the RMH Enhancement Plan for updates and support. In addition, MCS is working with pull list and e-commerce software provider Manage Comics for a replacement to ComicSuite that will integrate with RMH.
ComicHub, ICv2's longtime provider of comic and graphic novel sell-through data (see "Top 50 Comics") offers a complete POS and pull list package, with a one-day conversion from ComicSuite.
Web-based POS system Comic Shop Assistant offers migration from ComicSuite, and legacy software Moby, which inspired ComicShop Assistant.
While all of the options above can aggregate data from the two major comic distributors, there's still concern about data from other sources, including book companies that publish graphic novels and pop culture books, and the many merch companies that Diamond represented. Will they adapt the Comet Standard for selling to the comic store channel, as urged by ComicsPRO and retailers concerned about the issue (see "Retailers Fear Loss")? And if they do, and comic retailers are able to take preorders on their products, will comic stores have to add a wide range of new suppliers to maintain their product flow?
