Marvel Comics VP of Print & Digital Publishing David Gabriel announced two new limited series, Alien vs. Captain America and 1776, and teased another, as well as revealing more details about the upcoming Marvel/DC crossover, Deadpool/Batman #1.

With the Diamond retailer lunch a thing of the past, Lunar Distribution and PRHComics picked up the slack with two hour-long sessions in which all publishers, including DC and Marvel, made five-minute presentations. “I’m used to having 20 minutes, but we can deal with change,” Gabriel said, as he launched into a rapid-fire series of announcements.

Alien vs. Captain America, by writer Frank Tieri and artist Steffano Raffaele, is a four-issue follow-up to last year’s Aliens vs. Avengers miniseries (see “Preview: Marvel vs. Alien Variant Covers”). The new miniseries is set during World War II and features Steve Rogers; Gabriel described the premise as “The Red Skull is recruiting allies to the front lines of World War II, and he’s getting the xenomorphs to help him out.” The first issue will drop on November 5, 2025, with a main cover by Leinil Francis Yu and a foil variant by Dan Panosian.

The first issue of Aliens vs. Avengers was the third best-selling comic in dollars, and the 14th best in units, in the ComicHub system in August 2024 (see “Top 50 Comics – August 2024”), and the final issue had the fifth-highest dollar sales in its release month (see “Top 50 Comics – June 2025”).

Gabriel’s next announcement is a tie-in to next year’s 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. “We got together a few comic greats to put together a new book called 1776, where we will have revolutionary warriors assembling,” he said. “The premise here is that there's a mysterious force that goes back in time to try to undo the founding of the United States. And of course, Captain America puts together a team of heroes to go back to the past to make sure and safeguard the birth of the nation.” J. Michael Straczynski is writing the book, and artists Ron Lim and Sean Damien Hill will handle the dual storyline, which is set in both the past and the present. Cover artists will include Paolo Siquera, Pete Woods, Joe Quesada, and Steve Rude.

Marvel has already begun celebrating the nation’s semiquincentennial with a set of variant covers that pay homage to the 1976 Mighty Marvel Bicentennial Calendar (see “Preview”).

Longtime Spider-Man 2099 writer Steve Orlando will wrap up the 2099 universe and usher in Spider-Man 3099 in a new series, with more details to be announced later. Ibraim Roberson, who teamed up with Orlando for Annihilation 2099 #1 (see “New Marvel 2099 Heroes in Weekly Event Series”), will be the artist. “So you'll see more of that character, not only here, but possibly [in the] future Marvel Universe,” Gabriel said. “They're also introducing a new character called the Abyssus, who is a combination of Knull and Galactus.”

Gabriel revealed new variant covers by Russell Dauterman, Frank Miller, and Daniel Warren Johnson for the upcoming Marvel/DC crossover Deadpool/Batman #1 (see “Deadpool and Batman to Meet in Upcoming One-Shots from Marvel and DC”). The one-shot, which will go on sale on September 17, will have a Rocket Raccoon/Green Lantern backup story by Al Ewing and Dike Ruan and a Wolverine/Batman story written and drawn by Frank Miller.

He also announced that Venom will move to legacy numbering with issue #252, and with that issue, Venom will get a Spider-Man costume, just as Spider-Man got the Venom costume in Spider-Man #252. “There is a story in in 252 where he gets the suit itself,” Gabriel said, “and sort of similar to what we did way back, and I wasn't there, but what we did during Secret Wars, where you saw all of a sudden the appearance of the new black costume, we are going to all of a sudden see the all new Venom Spider-Man costume appear in the issue of Battleworld out in November. We've not announced that yet, but this will be the first appearance of that Venom. There's a lot going on with Venom and Knull all throughout next year, so he's going to play a part in that.”

Gabriel wrapped up his announcements with the news that Marvel will publish facsimile editions of Stan Lee and John Buscema’s Silver Surfer #1-7. “I think some of these are probably some of the hottest variants for Marvel out in the industry,” Gabriel said, “Those are the first seven issues of Silver Surfer, all square bound and all actual facsimiles. And I know I see these on the tops of the variant lists every single week selling across the country.”
