Vault will publish a new graphic novel based on Matt Dinniman’s Dungeon Crawler Carl LitRPG novels. The graphic novel, by Dinniman, writer Michael Moreci and artist Brett Bean, will be crowdfunded on the Backerkit platform in a campaign set to launch on October 1, 2025. Vault will then release the graphic novel to retail via Lunar and Universal for the direct market and Simon & Schuster for the book channel.

Dungeon Crawler Carl is a Coast Guard veteran who has to navigate a perilous fantasy dungeon with his ex-girlfriend’s cat in tow. The graphic novel will tell a new story, set in Carl’s world, from the point of view of another character (whose identity will be revealed on September 15) and will introduce some new characters; it is designed to be accessible to new readers and longtime fans alike.

Dinniman initially self-published the novels on the webnovel site Royal Road, then as ebooks via the ebook and audiobook publisher Aethon. The Random House imprint Ace picked up the print rights and published the first volume in 2024. The series is being developed for TV by Universal International Studios and Seth MacFarlane’s Fuzzy Door, and Renegade Studios has just announced an RPG (see “Renegade Partners with ‘Dungeon Crawler Carl’s’ Matt Dinniman”).

Dungeon Crawler Carl has also been adapted into a webtoon that began serialization on the Webtoon platform in July 2025 (see “Webtoon Inks Deal with Ebook Publisher Aethon”).     Aethon acquired a majority stake in Vault in June 2025 (see “Vault Sells Majority Stake”).
