Nakama Press, the Asian comics imprint of Mad Cave, will publish Cyber Phoenix, a new graphic novel by veteran Hong Kong artist Andy Seto. Set in the near future in a world where mystical martial arts and artificial intelligence sit side by side, the story follows a girl who sets out, accompanied by her AI robot pet, to find her parents, brilliant scientists who have mysteriously disappeared. Her quest brings her first to a mystical martial arts academy where she enlists the reluctant help of her aunt. Conceived in the same spirit as the Asian action films of the 1980s, the manhua mixes martial arts action, family friction, and questions of scientific ethics. Nakama Press will publish the 128-page paperback, rated for age 13+, on January 27, 2026, with an MSRP of $10.99.

“This is a completely personal work that I’ve written for the first time in nearly twenty years, which has allowed me to re-enter foreign markets,” Seto said. “I’m delighted to be collaborating with Nakama Press for the first time, allowing my work to meet overseas readers once again. I want to thank everyone in Hong Kong and the United States who has helped prepare the publication of Cyber Phoenix during this time!”

Seto is a Chinese artist based in Hong Kong who has been working in comics since the 1980s. He first came to prominence with his 1993 series Cyber Weapon Z, which was adapted into an animated series in Hong Kong and was published in English by Tokyopop. His comics adaptations of the films Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (see “Crouching Tiger—The Comic”) and Shaolin Soccer (see “ComicsOne to Release Adaptation of ‘Shaolin Soccer’”) were published in the early 2000s, and his other publications include ParaPara (see “ParaPara Dance Craze Hits U.S. Comics”) and The Four Constables (see “DrMaster Launches New ‘Four Constables’ Series”).
