David Small’s highly regarded Stitches graphic novel is a finalist for a National Book Award in the Young People’s Literature category.  It’s the second graphic novel so honored; American Born Chinese, by Gene Luen Yang, was the first, in 2006.  And while American Born Chinese didn’t win the award, its significance was noted at the awards ceremony, and the award influenced the publishers’ print runs for the book (see “First Second’s Mark Siegel on American Born Chinese”).

The National Book Awards Dinner, at which winners will be announced, is scheduled for November 18th in New York City.
