The summer heat is on, and Hollywood news is boiling over. Time for a round-up!
Sony Pictures Entertainment released a Spider-Man: Brand New Day production vignette (see below). The vignette shows Tom Holland's first day on the set of the new movie, shooting a scene where he is riding a tank down the street. Recently, Sony also announced that the Hulk would be in the new movie (see "Brand New Day' Hulks Up").
Disney has settled an Elon Musk-funded lawsuit (see "Disney Lawsuit") with Gina Carano, according to Variety. The lawsuit alleged that Disney wrongfully fired The Mandalorian star after Carano shared a social media post that compared being a modern Republican to the experiences of Jewish people during the Holocaust (see "Critical Shake Up"). A Lucasfilm representative stated that they have reached an agreement with Carano, and "look forward to identifying opportunities to work together with Ms. Carano in the near future."
In other Star Wars-related news, Deadline reports that Lucasfilm has cast Matt Smith in Star Wars: Starfighter. Matt Smith plays Prince Daemon Targaryen on House of the Dragon (see "The Dragon"), and will star alongside Ryan Gosling in the new movie (see "Gosling 'Star Wars' Feature").
Prime Video's Vought Rising has begun production and added new cast members, according to Variety. The Boys' prequel spinoff series, starring Jensen Ackles and Aya Cash (see "’Boys' Spinoff"), will also include the following new cast members: Jorden Myrie, Nicolo Pasetti, Ricky Staffieri and Brian J. Smith.
The Hulu streaming app is scheduled to be phased out, according to Variety. Hulu will be fully-integrated into the Disney+ app starting in 2026, as part of the merger between the two streaming giants (see "Disney Buys Hulu"). Hulu will still be available for purchase as a standalone plan, but the content will be delivered via the Disney+ app.
Disney has also canceled the Goosebumps series, according to The Hollywood Reporter. This series lasted two seasons on Disney+, but now Sony Pictures TV will have to shop the R.L. Stine IP (see "'Goosebumps'") around for a new home.
