Graham King has acquired the rights to make Lara Croft Tomb Raider from the Japanese video game company Square Enix. King plans to release a rebooted Tomb Raider movie in 2013 under his GK Films banner.  GK Films has produced a number of recent movies including The Town and Rango.

The 15 year-old game franchise has sold more than 35 million units worldwide and Square Enix is planning to publish a new game featuring the shapely English archaeologist in December.  The new game will focus on the origins of Lara Croft, which might also be the subject of the film reboot. The Tomb Raider franchise also spawned a popular comic book series (from Image) as well as toys, puzzles, and games.

It is not believed that Angelina Jolie will return to the role of Lara Croft, which opens up a major opportunity for a younger female action star.
