Shrek and Chronicles of Narnia helmer Andrew Adamson is planning a CGI animated feature film based on the Dark Horse Comic Beasts of Burden created by Evan Dorkin (Milk & Cheese) and Jill Thompson (Scary Godmother).  The film will be produced by Reel FX, the company created by former Industrial Light & Magic honcho Ed Jones that specializes in both CGI and hybrid features.

The heroes of Beasts of Burden are a group of dogs and a cat who manage to safeguard their human “owners” from all sorts of weird supernatural events that happen in the star-crossed community of Burden Hill.  Dorkin and Thomspon first created the animal heroes for The Dark Horse Book of Hauntings, Witchcraft, the Dead, and Monsters—and their short story won the pair Eisner Awards for best comic short story and best painter respectively.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the project will mark Adamson’s return to directing animated films.  Dark Horse’s Mike Richardson will produce along with Adamson’s partner Aron Warner.
