This summer is a hot one for Hollywood news. Time for a round-up!
Amazon MGM Studios announced that Denis Villeneuve will helm the next James Bond movie, according to The Hollywood Reporter. This will be the first Bond movie produced since Amazon MGM Studios took over the franchise (see "Takes Over James Bond "). Tanya Lapointe, Villeneuve's wife, will executive produce; Amy Pascal and David Heyman will serve as producers.
Legendary Entertainment and Hasbro Entertainment have hired a pair of writers for the live-action Magic: The Gathering movie, according to Deadline. Noah Gardner and Aidan Fitzgerald have been tapped to pen the new movie for recently announced director Matt Johnson (see "'Magic’ Movie"). The Magic: The Gathering live-action movie was originally announced back in February 2025 (see "'Magic: The Gathering' Film").
Legendary Entertainment announced that Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson has signed on to the new Street Fighter movie, according to The Hollywood Reporter. He will play boxer Balrog in the film. Jackson joins a cast that includes Jason Momoa as Blanka, Roman Reigns as Akuma, Noah Centineo as Ken, Orville Peck as Vega, Andrew Koji as Ryu, and recently added Callina Liang as Chun-Li. This movie will be directed by Kitao Sakurai (see "'Street Fighter'").
Marvel Studios dropped a final trailer for The Fantastic Four: First Steps (see below). This movie will hit theaters on July 25, 2025 (see "Best in Shows -- 2025").
Troma Entertainment released a new trailer for The Toxic Avenger (see below). This movie stars Peter Dinklage, Kevin Bacon, Elijah Wood, Taylour Paige, Jacob Tremblay, and Jane Levy, and opens in theaters on August 29, 2025 (see "Toxic Avenger").
Grey Skies, Steven Caple Jr.'s new production company, will adapt Ghost Fleet in a movie under his first-look deal with Paramount, according to Deadline. Ghost Fleet is based on a Dark Horse Comics series by Donny Cates (see "Donny Cates") with artwork by Daniel Warren Johnson. Mike Richardson and Keith Goldberg from Dark Horse Entertainment will serve as producers on this project.
