Topps will release Mars Attacks: Invasion, with a new story-based set of hand-painted cards, in October. This will be the first new story-based Mars Attacks cards in over 50 years. Artists on the set, including Earl Norem, Joe Jusko, Ed Repka, Glen Orbik, Gregory Staples, and others, will each illustrate multiple cards, with the 63-card story-based portion of the set divided into themed subsets.
Premiums will include cards from the original 1962 Mars Attacks set, certified by Topps in 2013, randomly inserted into packs. That 1962 Mars Attacks set is the most valuable non-sports trading card set in history. Other premium cards will include additional chase subsets and collector-driven inserts.
As part of the 50th anniversary celebration for the property, Topps released Mars Attacks Heritage, which included reprints of the original set plus some new cards, last July (see "McCrea Contributes 'Mars Attacks' Subset").
