Cryptozoic has released details for its The Walking Dead 'Don't Look Back' Competitive Dice Game which was announced at Toy Fair (see "'Walking Dead,' 'Archer,' 'Portal,' 'NHL' and 'Sleepy Hollow' from Cryptozoic").
"This game is part Tower Defense and part Walker-kill-a-thon," said Matt Hyra, Cryptozoic Lead Game Designer. Players take the role of one of four survivors from the show: Rick, Daryl, Michonne, or Carl; who each have a special ability to help them survive and score more Walker kills. The goal is to kill the most Walkers and prevent one of four iconic locations from the show from being overrun. Players score points by killing zombies or being the first player to escape a location. Special weapons allow players to press their luck and risk their current success to do even better. The player who accumulates the most points wins.
Games can be customized for quick 15 minute games by choosing to play only one location, or longer games with two, three, or all four locations. Players can also choose to work together or competitively.
The box contains 4 oversized character cards, 4 character pawns, 24 search cards, 10 Dice, 4 location tiles, 1 escape route token, 24 Walker tokens, a game board, and a score pad. The game is for 1 – 4 players, ages 15 and up, and plays in 15- 45 minutes. MSRP is $20.00. Release is planned for July.
Cryptozoic has made good use of its The Walking Dead TV license, with a reprint of The Walking Dead Board Game coming in June, as well as the recent release of the expansion for The Walking Dead: The Best Defense (see "'Woodbury Expansion'"). Both The Walking Dead Board Game and The Walking Dead Card Game landed on ICv2’s Top 10 Charts for Fall (see "Top 10 Board Games--Fall 2013" and "Top 10 Card/Dice Games--Fall 2013").
They’re likely to get more mileage out of existing products with the announcement last month that AMC had signed an agreement with Fox Television to air reruns of the popular show (see "Can You Say Ka-Ching? Dept.: 'The Walking Dead' to Get Broadcast Exposure").
