FUNimation has announced that Attack on Titan will begin airing on Adult Swim’s Toonami block beginning Saturday, May 3rd.

FUNimation, which secured the North American rights to the anime series in 2013, also plans to begin releasing it on home video on June 3rd.  Two widely distributed trade editions are planned, both with the first 13 episodes: a regular Blu-ray/DVD Combo at $49.98, and a limited edition Blu-ray/DVD Combo at $89.98.  Both of these editions will also include 104 minutes of extras including a Making of, Chibi Theater, Commentaries, Textless Songs, and more.  In addition to the series content, the limited edition will include a 3-D lenticular art card and a 24-page digibook with art, character information, and 4-panel comics.

FUNimation will also produce a Walmart DVD exclusive and an exclusive Blu-ray/DVD Combo package for its own website that will include four military emblem pins and two necklaces in addition to the components of the limited edition Blu-ray/DVD Combo.

The additional exposure can only help the popularity of the property, which started taking off when the anime began streaming on Crunchyroll and FUNimation, and Kodansha took the manga monthly to catch up with Japanese release (see "Kodansha Readies More 'Attack on Titan' Titles").

Kodansha Comics’ Attack on Titan manga releases in the U.S. have now taken over the top spot on ICv2’s Top 25 Manga Properties chart from the mighty Naruto (see "Top 25 Manga Properties--Fall / Holidays 2013"), and makes frequent appearances on the Bookscan and Diamond Charts  (see "March BookScan--Top 20 Graphic Novels" and "Top 300 Graphic Novels Actual--March 2014").

The wildly popular manga series is written and illustrated by Hajime Isayama.  The series is set in a world where humanity lives inside walled cities due to the Titans, gigantic humanoid creatures who devour humans.  When a Titan smashes through a wall and eats protagonist Eren Yeager’s mother, he and his adoptive sister Mikasa Ackerman and their friend Armin Arlert enlist in the military to join the Survey Corps--to battle the Titans outside the walls.
