Marvel has announced the next chapter in the adaptation of Steven King’s Dark Tower series: Dark Tower: Drawing of the Three--The Prisoner, which will arrive in September.

The comic adaptation is written by Peter David & Robin Furth, who have helmed the comic series since the beginning.  The series, which explores the story from slightly different angles than the books, was planned to conclude with last summer’s one-shot So Fell Lord Perth, but with the Marvel Now! initiative underway,  and King fans requesting it, Marvel decided to undertake the next chapter.

"(T)his is the 'All-New Marvel NOW!' version of The Dark Tower," said editor Bill Rosemann.  "As we now travel from The Gunslinger to The Drawing of The Three, we are refocusing our spotlight to explore the histories and events that led to the formation of the Ka-Tet that aided the gunslinger Roland Deschain on his quest to defeat the Man in Black and the Crimson King.  But instead of encountering Eddie Dean later in his life, as you do in the novel, we zoom back to 1964 and meet him as a toddler, so while we are adapting the second novel, we’re weaving together events in a new way that will hopefully surprise and entertain everyone who has already read the book."

Art for the five-part series will be done by Piotr Kowalski (Sex, Marvel Knights: Hulk).

The comic adaptations have been perennial hits, with the property ranking on the Top 10 Genre properties as recently as last summer (see "Top 10 Genre Properties--Summer 2013").
